SUNNY POINT SCHOOL HOUSE  District #89
located SE1/4 27-11-25

 in Roger Mills County

Sunny Point was a School which served as a Church on Sundays in the community of Sunny Point. It never had a post office. The schoolhouse/church was built in 1901 by the young families who were homesteading in that area.

One man was anxious to get a school started in the area and offered to give land on which to build a school. They got together to organize the district and he got wind that one family in the area was Republican and their kids would be  going to the school, so he withdrew his offer. The school was moved across the section line because of the politics of one family.

Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Fleming were instrumental in completing the building. The building served the community for 100 years. It stands in 2011, but is not used today.

In the Spring of 1941, the school disbanded and transferred to Meridian School.

The community continued to have their activities in the old school house for many years after 1941 and after the war. The last remembered events were held there in the 1980’s.
