Key to 1895 Atlas
Last Updated: 7/19/2002

I take absolutely no credit for the maps themselves.  I merely prepared this chart to help those unfamiliar with Oklahoma history & geography to make use of this valuable resource.  For other states, see the 1895 Atlas site.

Scroll down for more information, or jump to the links to the corresponding 1895 Map for Oklahoma Territory or Indian Territory from each present-day County.

1895 Maps of The Twin Territories

I. T. Gazetteer A to H I. T. Gazetteer I to O I. T. Gazetteer P to Z
O.T. Gazetteer A to H O. T. Gazetteer I to P O. T. Gazetteer Q to Z

For some time, this now-famous project was the only on-line source of information about many communities that existed briefly during territorial days. If you are already familiar with the project, use the above links to access its collection of maps for Oklahoma and Indian Territory and the corresponding Gazetteer that gives the population of many towns and shows whether they had a Post Office, Railroad Station, or Express Office.

If you know the present-day county but aren't familiar with the Territorial boundaries, use the links in the chart below to get to the map covering that area.  Then consult the Gazetteer regarding the towns you find.

If you don't know the present-day county or the Territorial county or Nation the place you seek was in, you can be in for an extensive search.  My Index to Towns and Index to Post Offices now include many of these long-gone places and can help shorten your quest for the appropriate map.  Use them to pinpoint a location with respect to present-day counties, then return here to jump to the corresponding map.
