Our Genealogical library is one of the finest in the area. Although we specialize in LeFlore County records, we have a vast collection of materials from every state as well as Native American records. The Research Library is located in the Patrick Lynch Public Library, 206 So. McKenna, Poteau, Oklahoma. The research library is open Monday‑Friday; 9:00 a.m.- 5 :00 p.m.Saturday; 10:00 am- 5:00 pm

A Poteau Valley Genealogical Society member is available to assist you with your research. If you are coming from out of town and would like to make sure a volunteer will be available to help you, call the Genealogy Dept. at 918‑647-4444 or by email at pvgs@outlook.com.

If you are unable to visit our library, the Poteau Valley Genealogical Society will do research in our genealogical library for PVGS members for   $10.00 per hour, with a minimum of $10.00 with membership or $15.00 per hour for non‑members, with a minimum of $15.00. All proceeds are used to obtain additional research materials for the library. Please include a long self‑addressed, stamped envelope for your reply. Each request should state exactly what information is desired. Family charts and any information you have should be included. The more information we receive, the easier we can locate the information you need and can prevent us from duplicating the information you already have. The minimum pay should be included with the request and advise us of the limit you wish to spend. We will bill you the remainder, up to your limit, if the research takes more than one‑hour. We get a lot of research requests , your research will be done as soon as possible.

The Poteau Valley Genealogical Society has published many books of LeFlore County records. These include cemeteries, marriages, census, funeral records, military records, histories and much more.

These books are available for purchase in order for you to research at home.

The Poteau Valley Genealogical Society also publishes a quarterly periodical, 'The LeFlore County Heritage' which contains information on early LeFlore County people and places. Most of this information is not available anywhere else. An index for all four issues is included in the last issue of the year, along with a cover sheet and title page. These can be bound together to produce a book. A list of all the PVGS members and the surnames they are researching are included also. This allows members researching the same names to correspond.

The Poteau Valley Genealogical Society membership year is January 1 ‑ December 31. Those joining after January will receive all back issues for that year. Members receive The LeFlore County Heritage published in January, April, July, & October. Dues are as follows: Individual ‑$15.00, Family ‑ $20.00, Individual Life ‑ $200.00, Family Life ‑ $250.00.
