HOWARD - June Pearl Hardie, June 1, 1917-July 13, 2008.

June was born on a homestead in Madison, Beaver County, OK.

The family moved to Sperry, OK when she was 3. She lived there until she graduated from high school. In high school she played basketball and was on the speech and debate team.

She married Jim Howard on November 2, 1935, and moved to Turley where she raised her family. They moved to the Florence Park Neighborhood in Tulsa in 1965 and lived there until 2007. They were the hub of a very close-knit group of neighbors in that area. She was a homemaker who was an excellent seamstress, gardener, and cook. After Jim retired, they traveled extensively. She said that this was the favorite period of her life. After Jim died in 2001 she lived independently until she was 90.

She was an avid sports fan and especially liked OU girl's basketball.

She nurtured, loved and guided her children, grandchildren and great-grand -children and everyone else who knew her. She cared for her family and friends all her life, helping with whatever was needed. She continued to assist her fellow residents at Methodist Manor where she has lived since 2007, by assisting with meals; helping others to their rooms and making new residents feel welcome.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, her parents, and her 9 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by: her daughter, Carol Tillman and husband, Rod; son, James A. Howard II and wife, Debbie; grandchildren: Michael James Edwards, Alicia June Edwards and husband, Todd Kirk, Gina Diane Howard, James Matthew Howard, and wife, Hollie; great-grand children: Keaton Timothy James Hubbard, Caileigh June Kirk, and James Matthew Howard II. She was known by all who knew her as kind and generous and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her favorite charity, Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, The Hardie Family Scholarship fund or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m., at All Souls Unitarian Church. Moore's Rosewood Chapel 744-1202
