Sarah, wife of T.J. Nichols Sr. who lives 6 miles north of town died Tuesday of comsumption. She was the mother of 5 living childred and suffered for many months.

Marietta will soon have 4 handsome churches instead of two.
The bums and hoboes are getting entirely too numerous in Marietta. The street
could be improved considerably by having some work done to them. Have we vagrant
law? If we have why/ Not Utilize the labor of some of these bums by improving
the streets?

Jesse Montgomery and Miss Inez Wilson both of Rubottom were married in the city Tuesday afternoon in the home of J.T. Ray. Rev. Chancellor of the Baptist Church performed the ceremony. The groom is 20 years old and the bride is 15. Parental objection was the cause for the elopement.

Jim Gayler was called to Orinne Tuesday by the message announcing the serious
illness of his sister, Mrs. J.H. Kerrick of that place.
C.C. Cox the Pike merchant was the business visitor to the city Tuesday.

Dr. Selfridge of Lebanon was the guest of Jas. A. White this week.
Last Sunday in the home of the bride in Gainesville, Ola Bobo who lives west of
this place and Miss Nora Howard of that place were united in the holy bonds of
matrimony, Rev. Schoonover officiating.

Luther Hodges of Simon was a business visitor here Monday.
Marriage license was issued from the County Judges office Monday for Claude
Hester and Ethel Langley of Rubottom.
Miss Elizabeth Barber of Pauls Valley has been the guest of Mrs. O.G. Ward.
Wayland Howell bookkeeper for the 1st State Bank returned Tuesday from points in
Tenn. where he spent the holiday with relatives.
January 8, 1915 Marietta Monitor
Religious Census in the town of Marietta showed: 729 Baptists, 472
Methodists, 160 Christians, 145 Presbyterians, 90 Church of Christ, 10
Catholics, 8 Episcopalians, 3 Church of God, 8 Congrgationalists, 42, no
preference.

Mrs. J.S. Scarborough was called to Commerce, Texas last Friday by a message
apprising her of the serious illness of a little grandson. The little fellow
died before she reached the place. The child died of diphtheria and was ill only
a few hours.
J.M. Hammons of Oswalt was a business visitor here Tuesday.
Edgar Hudson the three year old grandson of D. Rushing of Marsden died Sunday
after short illness of diphtheria and was buried at Marsden.
Al Howard of Simon was a visitor here Monday.
Parties were here for a coffin for the 20 month old child of H.A. Wallon who
lives about 7 miles N.E. of town. Interment took place in the Legate graveyard.
The death occurred Tuesday from bowel complaints.
Feb. 12, 1915 Marietta Monitor
Prof. M.C. Kile of Oswatl was a business visitor to Marietta last Saturday.
While in town he called on the Monitor and ordered some stationary from the Odd
Fellows Lodge at Oswalt.
Constable A.O. Phoades of Enville was here on business Tuesday.

Monday.
P.B. Arthur found the pencil he lost last week.
Preaching at the M.E. Church Sunday and at night by Brother Giles.
Drilling will commence at Rubottom on the oil well this week.

The death of F. L. Fuller, 70, occurred at the home of his Son-In-Law, Jesse Banks of Oswalt last Friday. He was buried at Simon. He leaves 7 children to mourn his loss; Mrs. Jess Banks, Boone Fuller, Albert Fuller, of Oswalt. Judge Fuller, Mrs. Lula Winters, Mrs. Pearl Layton and Henry Fuller of Fort Worth.
BURNEYVILLE ITEMS
The Christmas tree at the Baptist Church was much enjoyed especially the little folks when Santa began distributing gifts. Several Christmas songs were sung by the choir: Mrs. E.E. Phelps, Lucile Pendergraft, Zula Shankles, Ella Shankles, Jewel Scott, Ruby Carter, Colston Shankles, Norman Webster, Garvin Fincher and Ruth Richmond at the organ.
OIL SPRING NEWS
M/M S.D. Gaither, M/M Ernest Gaither, Ed Gaither, and M/M Emmett Langford
wisited Wilson last Sunday. The trip was made in their cars.
Mrs. Nellie McCullum moved this week from Marvins King’s place to Mr. Sadler’s
place. Her and her sons, Herman and Isaac will farm his land.
D. M. Ternt lost is barn and contents last Friday night. The fire’s origin is
unknown.
March 13, 1925 Marietta Monitor
William Britton, ten year old sixth grade student from the O’Savior district is Love County’s champion speller and will compete in the state meeting at Oklahoma City in April with all expenses paid by the Daily Oklahoman. William competed with students from the fifth through and eighth grades at Marietta High School. Other contestants were: Glee Berry, marsden; Willie Sullivan, Jimtown; Murrell Campbell, Franklin-Marietta; Ella Goldsmith, New Hope; Celestine Brown, Overbrook; Frank Culwell, Longfellow Marietta; Cleo Leemaster, Cannon Chapel; Vena Langston, Thackerville, Ralph Bloomer, Bowles.
