Peggs Cemetery

Photos and information furnished by:  Lisa Richardson

Lisa has furnished the following personal comment:

"There are no burials from the Tornado marked.  However, there are several unmarked graves.  And most of the people killed in the Tornado were buried in New Home.
The unmarked graves have a native red clay stone placed at the head and/or foot.  I think someone attempted to inscribe something in a couple of the native rocks, but gave up.
All-in-all the cemetery and its memorials are in very good condition.
No damage due to vandalism can be detected.  The lawn is well groomed.
And only a few stones have faded beyond legiblity.  The Cemetery is still active with burials ranging from 1906 to 2004.  Dominant surnames are DeMoss, Bradshaw, Thomas, Harvey, and Littlefield.

From what I know of the families of the area, most burials come from people living in the Spring Creek Valley.  I knew of DeMosses, and some Harveys living on the bluff overlooking a fork in Spring Creek.

Littlefields, Alversons, and probably several others likely come from Blacksmith Hollow, and the banks of the creek.  Several years ago, there was a Harvey Clan living at the top of Peggs Hill.  Bluebirds were in the front, and Harveys lived back-in a bit.

I hope this information helps someone.  I have acquired so much from the various Genealogy sites online, I am just trying to give something back to the community."
