State Pilots Die In Plane Crashes

Vinita, Maysville Men Are Victims


    Two Oklahoma men engaged in service flying were killed Thursday in airplain accidents in Florida and Texas. The dead:
    LIEUT. BEN F. SLACK JR., Vinita, killed when the army plane he was flying crashed near Burleson, Tex. Another soldier, Sgt. F.T. McLaughlin jr., address not available, died as a result of the crash.
    SGT. LLOYD A. HEWETT, 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Hewett, Maysville, was killed at Miami, Fla., when his marine training plane crashed.
    Hewett, who graduated from the Maysville highschool, had been in the marine air corps about a year and was scheduled to receive his commission in a few weeks. He was trained at the navy air base at Pensacola, Fla., and was transferred to Miami two weeks ago.
    Until his enlistment, he lived on a farm with his parents, about three miles from Maysville.
    Survivors include two brothers, Delno, Story, and Luther, in California, and a sister, Rea, Faoli. Services and burial will be in Maysville.
