‘Yards of Thread Used to Sew Up
Slashed Worker

VINITA, Dec. 29.—Joe Phillips, 32, an oil pipeline construction worker, was in a critical condition Wednesday at a local hospital from knife wounds Police Chief Vernon Glenn said he suffered in a quarrel with his wife Tuesday night.
The Simms, Mont., man has a 50-50 chance of surviving, his physician announced. The doctor was quoted as saying he “didn’t count the stitches, just the yards of thread.”
Phillips was slashed about the head, chest and abdomen with a four-inch butcher knife, Chief Glenn said.
