RITES HELD FOR CHARLES SUMMERS

    Funeral services for Charles E. Summers, 61, who died June 11 in Albuquerque of injuries received in a car accident near Albuquerque, were held Sunday at the Christian Church.

    Rev. Ewel Vaughan officiated with interment in Brumfield cemetery, under the direction of Shaw funeral home.

    Summers was born July 24, 1902 in Gentry, Arkansas.  He moved with his family to Seiling in 1910.  He worked with his father as a cabinet maker and builder.  He moved to Albuquerque in 1946.

    Survivors are two sisters:  Mrs. A. D. Sills, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Jack Sander, Seiling; two brothers, Richard, Albuquerque and Buck, Seiling:  and two stepdaughters.

OBITUARY   

    Charles E. Summers, son of Charles and Myrtle Summers, was born on July 24, 1902, at Gentry, Ark., and passed away on June 11, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 61 years, 10 months, and 18 days.

    His parents moved to Oklahoma when he was four years old and moved later to Seiling in 1910.  Gene worked with his father as a cabinet maker and builder.  He continued the work when he moved to Albuquerque in 1946.  He liked to work with his hand.  He liked nature and liked to read.

    Survivors include two sisters:  Mrs. A. D. Sills, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Jack Sander, Seiling; two brothers, Richard E., of Albuquerque and "Buck" of Seiling; two stepdaughters, Rosemary and Mrs. Jarrell Bridgman, Albuquerque, and other relatives and many friends. 

    Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at the Christian Church, Seiling, with interment at Brumfield Cemetery.

 

 

MAUD IRENE (GILCHRIST) SUMMERS   July 30, 1904 May 9, 1983

            Maud Irene Gilchrist, daughter of Charles and Josephine Gilchrist, was born July 30, 1904 just North of Seiling in Major County.  She died early Monday, May 9, 1983 at the Okeene Hospital Annex following a period of illness.  She was 78 years of age, 9 months and 9 days.

            She was raised at Seiling and attended Seiling Schools.  She later attended the University of Oklahoma where she received her Bachelors Degree and taught school at Seiling for many years.

            In 1946, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she continued to make her home until moving back to Oklahoma in 1982.  While living in Albuquerque she continued her education and received her Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico where she also taught for many years.

            On July 28, 1928, she and Gene Summers were married at Seiling and they lived here several years.  She was a member of the Christian Church in Albuquerque and also Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.  She was a member of the White Shrine Yucca Patrol at Albuquerque.

            She is survived by one brother, Henry Gilchrist of Seiling; 9 nieces and nephews, besides many great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

            She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 1983, at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel with Ewel Vaughan officiating.

            Burial followed in the Brumfield Cemetery under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

            Funeral services for Willie B. (Buck) Summers, age 77, were held Friday, January 11, 1974, in the Redinger Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ewel Vaughan officiating.  Interment was in the Brumfield Cemetery under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home.  Mr. Summers died early, Wednesday afternoon, at the Seiling Nursing Home following an extended illness. 

            He was born at Gentry, Arkansas on September 23, 1896 and came to Oklahoma with his parents in 1909.  The family settled in the Cedardale community then later moved to Seiling.  He was a retired mechanic. 

            Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Myrdell Aunspauch of Kingston, Washington, Mrs. William Sills of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and Mrs. Midge Sander of Seiling.  Also one brother, Richard Summers, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

GRAVESIDE RITES HELD WED FOR CLYDE SUMMERS

            Graveside rites were held Wednesday morning at the Seiling cemetery for Clyde F. Summers, who was killed July 4, in a train accident 8 miles west of Big Springs rural Devel County, Nebraska.

            Military services were observed at the graveside. 

            Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Summers; three brothers, Byron, Waterloo, Ohio; Gene, Albuquque, N.M.; and Richard, Raton, N. M; also two sisters, Mrs. Midge Sander, Seiling and Mrs. Art Sills, Oklahoma City.

            Arrangements were under the direction of Spies-Shaw Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

            Clyde Franklin Summers, was born in Gentry, Arkansas, November 5, 1906 to Myrtle and Charles Jobie Summers.

            He grew up in Seiling and attended the Seiling School.  He entered the service on November 13, 1942 and served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern campaigns, receiving a medical discharge December 28, 1944.

            Previous to this he had served ten years in the army, serving in the Philippines and the United States.

            He was preceded in death by his father, February 16, 1950. 

            He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Summers, Seiling; two sisters, Mrs. A. D. sills, Oklahoma City and Mrs. Jack Sander, Seiling; three brothers, Buck of Traer, IA, Charles Eugene of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Richard E. of Raton, New Mexico; two nephews, Randy Summers, Raton, New Mexico and Cap. Charles Wayne Sills, Lawton; three nieces, Dorothy Ann Sander, Seiling, Myrdell Summers, Waterloo, IA and Mrs. Joe Taylor, Portland, Oregon.

CHAS SUMERS FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SATURDAY

            Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church for Charles Jobie Summers who died Thursday of pneumonia.  Rev. Harold Herndon officiated at the services.  Burial was in the Seiling Cemetery with Spies-Shaw Funeral Home in charge.

            OBITUARY -  Charles Summers, who was better known as Jobie to his many friends, was born May 16, 1870 in Oxford, Missouri and departed this life February 16 1050   (1950).  At the age of two, his parents moved to Benton county, Arkansas.  In 1893 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Hottel.  They came to Oklahoma in 1906 and he has resided in Seiling for the past 40 years. 

            He owned and operated the Elite theatre for 22 years, and carried on as cabinet maker, tinner, and builder. 

            He was preceded in death by an infant son, Claudie Earl.

            He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two daughters, Mrs. A. D. Sills, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Jack Sander, Seiling; four sons, Buck S. of Pond Creek;  Gene of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Clyde S., Seiling; Richard S., Raton, New Mexico; two grandsons, Lt. Charles Wayne Sills, Kokrura, Japan; Randy Summers, Raton, New Mexico; three granddaughters, Mrs. Joe Taylor, Pendleton, Oregon; Myrdell S., Spokane, Washington; Dorothy Ann Sander, Seiling; three great grandchildren, Pamela Jo Taylor; Buck and Larry Sills, and one brother, R. L. Summers, of Gentry, Arkansas.
