Jobe C. Carter and Jeannie Elizabeth Curry Carter
“Pioneers of Garvin County”
Jeannie came to Wynnewood in 1898 from Montgomery, Alabama.
Before arriving in Indian Territory, the family lived in Texas for awhile.
At the time, they had three children: Lucinda, Roberta and Pearlie Wanita Carter.
Jeannie stated that she was fifteen (15) years old when her family left Ramer,
Montgomery Co., Alabama and moved to Texas. Jeannie stated that
her father’s name was Arthur Curry and her mother was named Fannie
Shaver Curry. Her parents were both dead in 1902 when she gave this
Jeannie related that her grandmother’s name was Caroline Shaver and
her great grandfather was name John Ochlitree, a full blood Choctaw Indian.
She indicated that she was a Mississippi Choctaw Indian and would like
to be included on the rolls. Jeannie gave her birth date as May 8, 1874.

Both of them are buried in Wynnewood, OK. Jobe Carter was one of
the old preachers in the Wynnewood and Pauls Valley area. In the early
territorial days, He was the minister at many of the rural Baptist churches in the area.
