Notes for >MARY ANN JENKINS:

In the 1830 Census Widow Perkins is shown with only one son living in

the household with

her . Since the age given for him was between 15 and 20, it must have

been Hardin. Many

of the younger girls were probably living on adjoining homesteads with

an older brother,

Logan, and brother-in-law, Levi Carpenter.

Shortly after 1830, many of the family members apparently left North

Carolina for

Georgia, Tennessee, and possibly Florida.

Drury, Sarah Carpenter, and possibly other members of the family moved

to Lincoln Co., TN

while Logan, Susannah Jenkins, Widow Perkins, and probably several of

the younger girls,

moved to Habersham Co. GA.

Hardin and his family arrived in Lumpkin Co. GA between 1838 and 1840.

Andrew, was said to have moved to FL

"OUR KIN" p. 514 states: Elijah Jenkin had a wife named Polly. He

wrote his will in 1805

and had his land on Long creek, Lincoln Co., NC divided Jan. 1818. Six

children were listed:

John, Nancy, James, Elijah, Drury and Ann.

Levi Carpenter in Lincoln Co.

safekeeping, the crossing

of the Mississippi River, and nights around campfires.

After arriving in TX, Hardin lived in Rusk Co., Angelina Co., and

finally Henderson Co. He

moved to the Fincastle area of Henderson Co. during, or shortly after

the Civil War

where he remained until his death

John Alfred Grier was grandson of two American Revolutionary War

Veterans, Moses

Grier and Thomas Stewart, and the son of Joseph Grier. Three

generations of the Griers

moved from GA to Autauga Co., AL. about 1823.

On 2 Aug 1830, John N. Stewart, uncle of John A. Grier, deeded him a

heifer for $1.00,

the f rst court record that has been discovered for John A. Grier in

Autauga Co. AL. At

that time he would have been about 12 years old. Next, he signed the

marriage bond of his

brother , George W. Grier, who married in 1846 in Autauga, Co. AL.

Around 1850, a large group of people from Autauga Co. moved to East TX,

including John A.

Grier who went to investigate the area. He liked what he saw, returned

to AL. to settle

business affairs, and then took three of his four brothers back to TX

with him. He and

Moses Gaines Grier sold the land and houses owned jointly by them in

Autauga Co., and

moved to Henderson Co. TX. John A. Grier is listed on the 1850 census

with his occupation

as a wheelwright, and on the 1860 census as a mechanic.
