     Eli Paul the oldest man in Lindsay died at his home in this city, at l:00 am Thursday Dec 12th. 1912. age 89 years, 8 mo and 11 days.  Funeral arrangements not completed as we go to press.  The deceased was a native of Virginia and served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.  He was married twice and is survived by a wife, four sons, and three daughters.  

     He married (1) Lydia Marie Antonette Shepley, 23 Sep 1869, in Canton, Fulton Co, IL, b. 1842, Lewiston, Fulton Co, IL, (daughter of Dr. Oliver Shepley and Lydia Lawrence) d. 22 May 1875, Lewiston, Fulton Co, IL.  

      Children:

       2.         i           Thomas Lee Paul b. 10 Nov 1871.

       3.         ii           Oliver Lawrence Paul b. 1 Feb 1873.

     He married (2) Anna May Wheeler, 30 Dec 1876, in Fulton Co, IL, b. 27 Apr 1858, Canton, Fulton Co, IL, (daughter of William Wheeler and Eliza Kaler) d. 30 Dec 1943, Lindsay, Garvin Co, OK, buried: Erin Springs Cemetery, Lindsay, OK.  

       Children:

       4.         iii          Cora Mae Paul b. 23 Aug 1879.

       5.         iv          James Franklin Paul b. 24 Oct 1880.

       6.         v          Fred Washington Paul b. 25 Mar 1882.

Eli Paul is buried in Erin Springs Cemetery, south of Lindsay, Oklahoma

He came to Indian Territory in 1899, after being in Illinois in 1876.  He was living in Chigley in 1905 and was living in Lindsay in 1912, when he died

Eli married his second wife, Anna Mae Wheeler, June 1, 1876 in Fulton County, Illinois.  Anna was born in Puttman County, Virginia.  Puttman County is now in West Virginia.  Eli also married his first wife in Illinois (see corrections to the right)

In her pension application dated June 15, 1915, Anna lists her address as Lindsay. 

Eli was 5' 10" with black hair and blue eyes and was said to be the oldest man in Lindsay at the time of his death at 89 years, 8 months and 11 days old
