Near Fatal Shooting
Shotgun Used Where District Court Restraining Order Had Failed
ONE EYE OUT, OTHER INJURED
Lewis Trahern Prominent Citizen and Pioneer Nearly Loosed Life Monday
Lewis Trahern sustained injuries at the hands of D.H. Oehler, Monday from which he will lose one eye, with some probability of losing the other. There were but two shots fired they being from a shot gun loaded with small shot.
The greater part of the charge took effect in the head but it is thought none penetrated the skull. One shot passed throught the ball of the left eye while another injured the right eye, but it is thought this one can be saved. A considerable number of shot were found just underneath the scalp.
The horse on which Mr. Trahern was riging also received a number of shot and like the rider lost one eye.
There had been family trouble between Mr. Oehler and Mr. TRahern, the former being a renter and living on the farm of the latter. Last week Mr. Oehler secured a restraining order which forbade Trahern coming onto the farm and when the order was disregarded Monday morning, the above was the result.
Mr. Oehler surrendered to the officers and was released by Judge McMillan on $1000 bond.
