J. L. Benson Homestead

submitted by Ned Benson

J.L. Benson Homestead
This is the homestead farm of John Lewis and Malinda Benson, somewhere near the Vittum community which was in the NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Sec 30, Twp 16N, R 1W (Bear Creek Twp).

John Lewis Benson is not in the picture. He died 23 March 1906 and was often bedfast before his death with ailments he believed were caused by his Civil War service. Shortly after his death Malinda was granted a Civil War widow's pension. This picture is probably about 1903. The three people at the right are probably, from the right, Earl Alanthus, Nora Dame Benson (Malinda's daughter by her first marriage), and Voliny Oliny Benson. Malinda Benson is at the center. The identity of the children is uncertain. The girl may be Rachel May Pinnick, Melinda's niece.
