HANER-ADAIR CEMETERY
Locust Grove, Oklahoma
Picture and information furnished by Charlotte Covey
Below in another Entrance Photo furnished by:
Tina
Reser
This survey was conducted by Charlotte Anderson Covey during the month of
September, 2002.
It is my understanding that this cemetery was established during the 1950's when
several cemeteries had to be moved due to the building of Ft. Gibson Lake.
In surveying the cemetery, I started on the southwest corner and numbered the
sequentially from west to east.
There were a lot of cement slabs that I assume were
placed there when the cemeteries were moved to give what information
was known
at the time.
(All dates entered in format mm/dd/yyyy.)
** in row number indicates second marker for same person
(usually military).
In the comments there will sometimes be a number (i.e. 4 - 25) my best guess is
that this identifies the location in the cemetery it was moved from.
NOTE: From
Luke Williams "The Haner-Adair Cemetery resulted from the relocation of
several rural cemeteries during the construction of Fort Gibson Lake.
Construction of the lake began in 1942, but World War II halted the
project. The completion of the lake occurred in September 1953. The
following cemeteries were relocated during the construction of the lake and
now form the Haner-Adair Cemetery which is located in Section 6, Township 19
North, Range 20 East near the community of Murphy, Mayes County, Oklahoma:
Adair Cemetery - This cemetery was originally located in Section 10,
Township 19 North, Range 19 East, approximately four miles southeast of
Chouteau, Mayes County, Oklahoma. It contained approximately 152 burials at
the time of relocation. Only 85 graves could be identified successfully.
Earbob Cemetery - This cemetery was originally located approximately three
miles northeast of Yonkers, Oklahoma. It contained ten graves at the time
of relocation. None of the graves could be identified.
Haner Cemetery - This cemetery was originally located in Section 20,
Township 18 North, Range 19 East, approximately four miles northeast of
Wagoner, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. It contained approximately 155 graves at
the time of relocation. Thirty of these graves could not be identified."
