The 1945 Checotah Wildcats under the guidance of Coach Guy Gardner, and Assistant Coach Herman Emerson, started the season at Bixby September 14. The Wildcats were light and indexperienced and were defeated by a score of 1900.

September 20, the Wildcatsplayed the St. Jospeh Cardinals at the local park. The Wildcats, still light but improved in experience, defeated the Cardinals 33-6

September 28, the Wildcats were defeated by a much heavier and more experienced team from Wagoner by a score of 20-6. The Wagoner team won the conference this year being scored on only once during the conference play.

October 5, the Wildcats played the Sallisaw Black Diamonds. The two teams were almost evenly matched in weight and experience. The Wildcats defeated the Black Diamonds 21-7.

October 12, the Wildcats defeated the Westville Yellow Jackets 20-6.

October 19, the Wildcats defeated the Stillwell Indians 26-0 and the next week were defeated by the Stigler Panthers, last year's conference champions, 24-0.

November 9, the Wildcats played the strong Tahlequah Tigers on their home field in a drizzling rain and were defeated 19-14.

November 16, the Wildcats defeated their long time rivals, the Eufaula Ironheads, by a record breaking score of 41-6.

Of the 1945 Squad, eight were Seniors who have played their last game for Checotah High. These Seniors played excellent football all season and established a good record for themselves.

Their record is as follows:
Leon Terry 1st Team All Conference End 7 touchdowns
Leo Simon Honorable Mention Back 3 touchdowns
Ray Waller 2nd Team All Conference Back 4 touchdowns
Dick Wood Quarter Back 4 touchdowns
Bob Reed Left End 1 touchdown
Lloyd Jernigan Left End 1 touchdown
Eustace Llewellyn Right End
Charles Boyd Left Tackle

All in all the Wildcats enjoyed a successful season, placing fourth in the Conference. Much credit is due Coach Gardner, who worked long and hard developoing the Wildcats into the team they were.
