* Karen Bode Baxter, an Oklahoma State University graduate student, copied all the names from the 153 headstones in this historic cemetery and included them in her thesis (pages 101 to 106).  She turned the list of names over to the Checotah City Hall.  Mrs Blackburn secured the list from City Hall.

An article about the cemetery was written by Mrs. Blackburn for the McIntosh County Democrat of July 26, 1990.  A fund has been established at Peoples National Bank in Checotah to raise money for the preservation of the cemetery.  The 5-acre tract has been surveyed, and an arch for the entrance has been created by Raymond Carey, retired vocational-agriculture teacher of Checotah High School, assisted by several students and Clint Colburn.  Contributions to the fund have come from as far away as California adn can still be made to the Old Cemetery Fund at the bank.  The money will be used to landscape and possibly fence the area.
