Surname: HASTY
Submitted on 24Sep2012 by Carla Adams
Trying to find information on the mother (Pearl Hopkins) of William Franklin Hasty (1888 in Oologah -1972), family information has him being born in Claremore, Rogers Co, OK in Indian Territory and passed away in Osage City, KS. Census of him has, unmarried, show his step mother as his mom, Ida Castella Stineman, and shows
her born either KS or TN. Once William is married,  his census only show USA for his mother's birth place. Ida and William George Hasty were married about 1896, she had a son (born 1892) from a previous spouse and William Franklin was born 1888, Ida Castella is not his biological mother. Family information also has William Franklin being taken by his father from his mother, still trying to find out what year this happened. Kansas had a 5 year census and so far I can't find the Williams' in 1895, so maybe still in Oklahoma? for him either show OK or Indian Territory. His father was William George Hasty, born 1864 in KS. Ida Castella Stineman, born 1875 in KS or TN, first son born 1892 in KS to a Lenard Davidson. Please let me know where I should look, who I can call or any clues would help.

My great grandfather John Thomas Phinney is buried in the Chelsea Cemetery.  I was wondering if there are any records kept in the office for the cemetery that might  contain how he died or what state he was originally from.  He died May 12 or 19, 1900.  My siblings and I are trying to find this information to have a positive link to a John  Phinney son of Asahel and Mary Phinney in the 1870 Census for Wea Township, Miami County, Kansas,  His age of three months would seem to match the age of John Thomas Phinney on his headstone there in the Chelsea Cemetery.  Just trying to check every possible source.

I am looking for any information anyone might have on my great grandfather Horatio (Harry) Moses Martin born in Shaler about Dec. 1862.
I have some information:
The 1870 Census for Shaler, Allegheny Co, PA Robert 36 Rebecca 30 Margaret 11 Herchel 8 Horatio 6 Levi 5 Wilbert 3 Robert 1 The 1880 Census for Franklin, Butler County, PA Horatio Martin, age 17, laborer on a farm. "Probably" the same as in the 1870.
I'm basically trying to confirm that this in fact my great grandfather. After PA, he would have lived in Puyallup, WA (where my grandfather Victor Leon was born), Winterset, Iowa (1900 Census), and finally Claremore, OK (1910 Census). In 1888, he was married to Myrtle Catherine Cathran (?) Surname Unknown.
I believe he and his wife probably stayed in Claremore because my grandfather lived not too far away in Nowata. I have no information about his or his wife's dates of death.  He's a bit of a dead end, so I appreciate any help.  Dawn A. Lester

Seek obit or family info on Grace Gregory, b. 1885, Elk City, Montgomery Co. KS to Mary Monfort and Wm. Means Gregory; died 27 March 1963, Claremore, Rogers Co., OK. Her parents are suspect to me as biological because they had been married 25 years when she was born and the only other child listed for them was a son with no dates. Mary Monfort's brother, Peter S. Monfort, migrated to the Cherokee Nation and died there in 1903, age 74.  He was born in Warren Co., OH and most of his children were born in IN.  Possibly Grace Gregory might have been a child of one of them or born in the Gregory line and raised by Mary and Wm. Gregory.  Mary died 1919 and Wm. in 1917, both in Montgomery Co., KS.  It appears Grace did not marry.  If so, perhaps she was infirm.  I did not find SSN info on her online.  Perhaps she migrated to Claremore to reside with relatives.  I would be interested in any obituary information on her.
My source for her is www.MyArnolds.com.
I cannot confirm the data is correct.  Some in the Monfort family were ministers, Presbyterian I think.

I am looking for an obituary and or a place of burial for Sherman Albert Huffman. He was born in IN 3 Jun 1887 and died in Claremore 8 Dec 1968. He was a School Teacher of some sort. He was married to Wife Bertie who was born 21 Dec 1895 and died in Claremore  1Mar 1984. They had one son, Dean Albert Huffman born 12 Jul 1929 and died in Claremore 17 Oct 1993. I cannot find find records
of burial on line in any of the Rogers County Cemeteries. If anyone can help or point me in a direction it would be much appreciated.

Don, I knew Dean as an acquaintance because of work and I called a friend's father who lived across the street from the Huffman's, both the parents and Dean when he came back to Claremore.  The friend said he thought Sherman and Bertie were from Cushing, Payne Co., OK and he believes they were buried there. So, you might check Payne County for any burials.  I volunteer at the Will Rogers Library on Monday evenings, and I will see if I can find obits for them in the Claremore Progress films.   Sincerely, Louise
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really appreciate the effort. Since you did know Dean, What did he do for a living? would he also be buried in Cushing? Do you think there might be living relaatives? I have found nothing on these three except the social security zip code of the last benefit which is Claremore. I searched the Cemeteries on line in Payne County and found nothing.
Thank You so much for your response.  Don Huffman, citrus Heights, CA

This Mr. Huffman sounds like a teacher I had at Sequoyah(5 miles North of Claremore) in 1947 my senior year. I have pleasant memories of him, he was nice person. I think that he taught & retired from Okla. Military Academy at Claremore, sometime he would wear his military uniform at Sequoyah. Shortly after finishing high school I went to work for Southwestern Bell, Mr. Huffman questioned me how his son might go to work for SWBTCO. The last time I remember seeing him when my son was born in 1954 he talked to me about buying an insurance policy for my son. My son had the colic and cryed all night, he seen how tired I was, he said I will talk to you about it when you get some sleep. I don't remember ever seeing him again. John P. Lock

There is a Frona Cooley listed on the honor roll with my grandmother Ruby (Barnes) Houston in the November 21, 1907 issue of the Owasso, Oklahoma Valley Echo as follows:
"Pupils in Mrs. N. D. Smith's class at .the Owasso school were listed on the, honor roll if they averaged 85 percent in all studies. The. Echo includes the honor roll from the November examinations:
Callie Mitchell, Frona Cooley, Ruth Hagaman, Doddle Foster, Lulu Brown, Ruby Bares, James Roebuck, Gladys Hagaman, Beyer Smithers, Nellie  Barnes, Carrie Petty,. Dorothy Swift, Oma Foster, Leo Roebuck, Hallie Pitman, Holly Anderson,  Nora Scott, Gabe Ballard, Ora Hudsøn, Sarah Hudson."
Could this be your Frona Cooley? My grandmother would have been about 12 in September 1907.

Not sure but I believe that De Witt C and Nancy J Cooley MAY have been the parents of your Frona Cooley and that her siblings may have been Charles W and Elais M Cooley. I base that on the the previous message I sent which showed that Frona Cooley was a shoolmate of my grandmother Ruby (Barnes) Houston and the fact that De Witt C Cooley lived in the same location and county as Ruby's father JOSEPH T. BARNES and Ruby's husband's father WARREN BEAUREGARD HOUSTON (my great-grandfather) in the 1910 census for 1910  Census, for Oklahoma, Tulsa County, Owasso Township.
I can only guess that Frona was not include in the attached census page because she was already married to Mr. Wood.

We are looking for a George W Melton that lived in Claremore OK in 1944. He may be our key to figuring out our Melton mystery. I am not having any luck so hopefully someone in your area could look for him in a cemetery listing or city directory, or maybe the 1930 census. I believe that he was born in Laclede Co, MO in abt 1862/1864 or so. We know that he was in Claremore in 1944 because he was in the obit listing for our ancestor, Melissa Caroline (Melton) O'Quinn Marcum in June of 1944. If you can help me, please let me know. I sure would appreciate this. Thank-You.

OK, this is a weird question, but, I am going to ask it anyway.
Please get a map and go south of Oolagah to east-west road 43 and then go to north-south road 410.  At this point go south nearly one mile.
Has there been an occurrence at this point that is historically significant??
Was there been anything news-worthy such a military attack, outlaws captured, a disaster at this location??
I have driven through this area for many years and just have a "hunch" about it.
