My family came from Boone county AR
to OK in 1897 and has lived here in north east OK since that time. My
Grandfather Joe HATHCOAT
moved to the town of Wagoner and went to work for the city back in the
30's cleaning the streets at night. When I was just a kid there was a
tavern on the old highway on the south edge of Wagoner does any one
know the name of this tavern ( I think it was called the bucket of
blood or bloody bucket) or something like that.

Surnames: EVANS
I am trying to find out genealogical
info on an ancestor Will O EVANS
who shot his foreman and was sent to the Oklahoma State Prison in 1922
and retried and sent again in 1924. He was pardoned in
1925. I am trying to find out his parents names--his mother
was full blood Cherokee and his birth father's name was
McKinley. He murdered the foreman of a hog ranch where he
worked. If someone can tell me the name of the newspaper for
Wagoner at that time or do a look up for me I would really appreciate
it.
Thanks,
Renee

I posted a few days ago about an ancestor in my husband's family who
was convicted of manslaughter. I was trying to get his prison records
to find out the name of his mother who was full blooded Cherokee from
Louden, Tennessee.
I received a reply from OSP
authorities I will post below. They told me Will O EVANS
was in the Sheriff of Wagoner county's custody while getting a
re-trial.I would like to obtain those records because his mother's name
was NOT listed in the state's prison records.
Can someone help me obtain the Sheriff of Wagoners' records?
Here is
the reply I received:
Mr. Evans was first sent to the Oklahoma State Penitentiary on November
26, 1922 to serve a 20 year sentence for Manslaughter of of Wagoner
County. He was released on January 21, 1924 to the Sheriff of Wagoner
County because his conviction was overturned and he was granted a new
trial. He was convicted again and given a 4 year sentence for the crime
and sent back to OSP on June 20, 1924. He discharged the sentence and
was released on August 2, 1925. Very little remains from his prison
file. There is no mention of his birth mother's name. His wife and
brother's names are recorded. I can send you copies of the information
we have.

Searching the BROADWELL line in Morris County. I'm looking for
information about William BROADWELL, the son of David BROADWELL, who
according to the Rockaway Cemetary Records went West before 1817. Does
anyone know where he went? Any information on William BROADWELL family
would be useful. I'm also searching the connection between the other
BROADWELLS in the Rockaway area. There were about 8 or 9 BROADWELLS
that fought in the Revolutionary War. I believe that they may be
brothers (Samuel, Simeon, David, Hezehiah, Natheniel, Moses, Jacob,
Ezra, and William). A letter written by a Mrs Ella BROADWELL contained
in the BROADWELL family Bible stated that a Josiah BROADWELL and his
wife Sarah BRYANT died in 1774 leaving 8 children. The letter also
stated that Hezehiah was one of children. Revolutionary records state
that Samuel and William were also sons of Josiah and Sarah. Are the
others listed the remaining sons of Josiah BROADWELL? Has anyone worked
through this confusion? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
