Taken about 1884:  Martin VanBuren Jones, born January 3, 1864 in Missouri to Thomas Porter Jones and Silviry Dunning Jones.  Towards the end of the Civil War, his family moved to Edna, KS.  He and Nancy Caroline McGuire were married at Edna on December 21, 1884.  Their first child, Bertha Ann, was born in Kansas.  By the time their next child, Isaac Clifford Cecil Jones, was born, in December of 1887, they were in Indian Territory.  They had seven more children:  James Leroy "Roy", who married Zena Evans; Rosella Florence, who married Billy Lyman; Ora Efton, who married Violet Eutsler; Early Ernest, who died in infancy; Myrtle Maude Ethel, who married Jesse Osborn; Lola Viola, who married Henry Herren; and Martin VanBuren "Bud" Jones, who married Ada Belle Turner, Bessie Brown and Marie Cox.

Martin VanBuren Jones, or "Van", as he was called, was a farmer and a member of the Woodmen of the World in Ochelata.   Family lore is that he had a leg amputated in a farming accident and died later of gangrene.  His death date is 24 Feb 1907 and he is buried in the cemetery at Ramona.

Nancy Caroline (McGuire) Jones and two of her children, Martin VanBuren Jones, Jr. "Bud" and Lola Viola.  Taken about 1910.  Nancy was born 12Feb1866 to Jesse Calvin McGuire and Elizabeth (Looney) McGuire of Camden and Stone County, MO.  See the picture of Martin VanBuren Jones, her husband, for information on him and their children.  She was widowed in 1907.  She was married for a short time to David Franklin Eutsler, but the marriage did not last.  She died at the age of 55 on April 29, 1929 of angina pectoris.  She is buried in the cemetery at Ramona beside Martin VanBuren Jones.  Her headstone was set later on by the children of her son James Leroy.

Clifford Cecil Jones on the right and Henry Chambers on the left.  They were friends.  I don't know very much about Henry.  Clifford was the son of Martin VanBuren Jones and Nancy (McGuire) Jones, who were pioneers in Ochelata/Ramona.  Clifford was born 24Dec1887 in Indian Territory.  He was quite a "lady's man".  He married first to Mamie Yount, whose sister Mary was married to Wallace Price.  He worked as a ranch hand on Wallace and Mary's ranch near Ochelata until about the time Wallace was murdered.  Mamie ran off to Missouri with another man, the divorce papers said, and then he had a short relationship with Rose Griggs, daughter of George and Alice Griggs and sister of Washington "Warsh" Griggs, who was said to be a bank robber who did time in Leavenworth prison.  A marriage record has not yet been found.  Then in 1921 he married Gaylie Faye McMasters who lived with her parents William T. McMasters and Minnie (Liston) McMasters.  He was twenty years older than Gaylie.  They had thirteen children together.  He died in Bartlesville in 1966.

Rose Griggs, daughter of George and Alice Griggs.  Taken about 1910.  She was born about 1892 in Kansas.  She was found on 1910 census at Ochelata, OK living with her parents and her brothers, Frederick, Harry, Loren R., and Washington.  She is said to have been married for a time to Clifford Cecil Jones, and then to Ray Beard.  I was told by a descendant of her brother, Loren Griggs, that she died of breast cancer about 1960 in Phillips, TX.

On the back of this photo it says "Roy and Gertie, a friend."  Roy is James LeRoy Jones, son of Martin VanBuren Jones and Nancy Caroline McGuire Jones.  This was taken before his marriage to Zena Evans and it is thought that he and Gertie were dating.  I do not know what Gertie's last name was.  Photo taken about 1905 in Ochelata, I.T.
