Cherokee School, Mayes Co. Oklahoma

The Allen family children in this photo are the children of  Elbert Jeremiah Allen and his wife, Anzonetta Biffle. You can see the arrows  pointing to each of the kids. In the back row, the first one written is Henry, ( Henry Andrew Allen) the secon Charley ( Charles Elbert Allen) and then Anna Louisa Allen ) on the girl. The first arrow is hard to see arrow is pointing to a girl's dress, however I believe it is pointing to the almost obscured girl, Mary Paralee Allen. This Allen family left Mayes Co. OK in 1908 and lived in southeastern Colorado at Bent Co.

There was a peach orchard near the school and the teacher let Charlie and Henry and the older boys get some peaches for all of the kids to eat.

An Indian girl was mad at the teacher and set fire to the school and it burned down in a hurry. These notes came from Mary Paralee Allen.
