Tigers Defeat Clayton 5-4
Before Record Crowd

The Talihina Indians nosed out Clayton 5 to 4 before the largest crowd of the season, Sunday, at the American Legion Park in Talihina.

Delos Wade's sensational pitching was the bright spot of the game. He cut down 13 by the strike-out route, three in a row in the sixth and three in a row in the ninth. In the seventh Wade got out of a hole when he walked Hurd, Ray singled, Meadows struck out and then Drain singled scoring Hurd, but Ray was cut down by a nice throw by Gib Wade to the catcher, Anderson. Only one run out of a walk and three singles.

Quinlevin pitched a wild game hitting one batter and walking six in four innings. Bud Walling, Talihina's only consistant [sic] hitter, knocked out a two base hit to left field in the second inning scoring Rich Anderson who got on by an error and McWhorter who walked in. In the next inning Pike walked, Blue Anderson bunted, Delos Wade bunted and Pike and Anderson came in on an overthrow to first. Pike got his third walk in the next inning stole second and came around third and home on two overthrows.

Callahan of Clayton got three hits out of five times at bat and Drain and Roy Brown each connected with the ball for three base hits. Wade kept the hits well scattered however.

The Lineup

Talihina - Pike, B. Anderson, D. Wade, R. Anderson, McWhorter, G. Wade, B. Walling, P. Walling, Robinson

Clayton - Meadows, Callahan, Bob Brown, Williams, Drain, Sands, Roy Brown, Sisson, Stidham, Hurd, Quinlevin, Ray

Wortham - Box

Mr. Clayton S. Wortham of Oklahoma City and Miss Margaret (Lovie) Box of Tuskahoma, were married in the Methodist parsonaget (sic) in Talihina Saturday. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. O. Bucy in the presence of a group of friends of the contracting parties.

Immediately after the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Wortham left for Oklahoma City where they visited for several days, returning to Tuskahoma Wednesday of this week. Miss Box is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. M. Box, well known family of Tuskahoma. She was a member of the school faculty at Tuskahoma this past term. Mr. Wortham is employed by the state highway department.

W. A. Allen Elected Superintendent of Pine Valley Schools

W. A. Allen, of this city, and former superintendent of the Talihina schools has been elected superintendent of the Pine Valley and Muse schools for the coming year. Mr. Allen is a high class gentleman and rates high as an educator over the state.

Card Of Thanks

We take this means of thanking our many friends and neighbors for the beautiful floral tribute and also for the many acts of kindness shown us during the illness and death of our beloved father. Words cannot express our sincere appreciation.

Mrs. W. L. Emmert and family.

A Correction

The item in last week's Talihina American, givng the names of the teachers employed here for the coming year, and also the names of those teachers who did not apply we failed to include the name of Miss Opal Gann. The paragraph in which the mistake was made should have read as follows:

"Teachers elected were: Supt. L. M. Doughty, Mrs. W. A. Allen, Mrs. Roy Ogden, in high school, Miss Smith, primary department; Miss Evelyn Howell and Miss Margaret Bollinger, grade department. Mrs. Bertha Pementer, Miss Opal Gann, Miss Elsie Schweining, members of the faculty this year, were not applicants."

Recruiting Underway For Roosevelt Forest Camps

Recruiting of Oklahoma's quota of 5,000 men for the federal reforestation army began Wednesday when G. H. Scroggins state relief director issued a call for a first section of 450 men. Other calls will follow soon, he said.

The first enlistments will be principally from wooded sections of southeastern Oklahoma. To qualify the recruit must be single, unemployed, between the ages of 18 and 25 and with needy dependents.

The recruits will be paid $30 a month and must sign an agreement to pay most of the amount probably $25 to the nearest destitute relative.

All boys who are eligible for enlistment as a member of President Roosevelt's forest camps must go to Poteau for registration.

The work is being handled by J. B. Harper, county head of the unemployment relief projects and all questionnaires are being held at his office at the county seat. As we understand it the LeFlore county quota is seventy-one boys and there will probably be many more applicants than there are positions to be filled from this county.

Notice to Car Owners

Joe Epley local automobile tag agent says that the new auto license law, provides that all cars made prior to the year of 1928 will not have to pay license on back year. A car built not later than 1927, on which license was not paid last year or the last several years, can operate by paying only 1933 license.

Trucks and trailers, Mr. Epley states will have to be brought in and weighed before they can secure tags. May 15th is the dead line on securing tags without attaching all back penalties.

Men's Bible Class Now Has Membership of Ninety Five

Everyman's Bible Class of the Talihina Methodist Church is an organization that has grown from 9 to 95 members in ten weeks under the guidance of Rev. W. O. Bucy.

The plan of development of the class was unusual but its results has brought together a larger group of men than there ever has been in an organization connected with the local church since it was built 41 years ago.

Interest in the class was lagging and the membership had dwindled in nine members when Rev. Bucy suggested that the class should move to the Ritz Theatre to take care of the increased membership that he anticipated. The members of the class decided to try a plan although they did not believe it was possible to obtain any real large increase.

There were twenty-five present the first Sunday and the Class organized with Rev. Bucy as teacher, L. M. Doughty as president and E. G. Foster, secretary and treasurer. A membership campaign was started according to states. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee were the divisions and in four weeks Oklahoma had 21 members, and Arkansas and Tennessee 14 each.

The campaign was then changed to a contest between the reds and whites with a result of an increase of about nine members each week until the present membership of 95. Sunday, April 30, 77 members gathered to have a class picture taken and the class has voted to become a Wesleyan Bible Class.

Each Sunday at 9:45 am the men come off the streets and gather in the dimly lighted theater where they sign hymns to the accompaniment of a fiddle. They also sing pep and booster songs. They come in overalls or their Sunday best, according to how they happen to be dressed and then go home with a spiritual message from Rev. Bucy as well as a feeling of good fellowship towards men in general because of the cosmopolitan fraternization of the class.
