J.C. Benefield, 76, of Heavener, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003,
in Poteau. He was a long time resident of Heavener, a member of the
Hontubby Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife Shirley; eight daughters, Elaine Calhoun of
Heavener, Anna Bandy of Union City, Margie Phillips and LaDonna Dunn,
both of Poteau, Nancy Cox, Debbie Dalton and Jaylene Shepherd, all of
Howe and Misty Benefield of the home; six sons, Allen of Howe, Ronald
and Donald, both of Monroe, James of Booneville, Ark., Dewayne of Howe,
Steven of the home; two stepsons, Bruce Hanson of Bethany and Victor
Hanson of Heavener; one sister, Ginger Palmer of Haw Creek; two
brothers, Sidney Benefield of Fanshawe and Chester Benefield of Haw
Creek; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at Hontubby Baptist
Church. Burial followed in Hontubby Cemetery in Heavener under the
direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
