Thomas J. Brown, 79, of Poteau, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002. He
was born Dec. 7, 1923 at Shady Point. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army having served in World War II. He worked in the coal mines for 30
years. He loved to fish, hunt, draw, whittle, tell stories, and visit
with grandchildren and friends. He loved life to the fullest. As his
granddaughter said, "He loved to go lolliegagging."
Survivors include his wife Mildred of the home; four sons, Tommy and
Betty Brown and Wayne and Pat Brown, all of Shady Point, Ronnie and
Brenda Brown of Howe and Lynn and Lynda Brown of Poteau; three
sisters, Ora Lee Spangler of Poteau, Shirley Duncan of Heavener and
Linda Carlile of Spiro; three brothers, Audie Brown of Kermit Texas,
James Brown of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Bill Brown of Broken Bow; 22
grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; honorary daughters, Reba and
Tracy; and lifelong friend, Clyde Byous; numerous nieces and nephews,
other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Graveside services were at 2 pm Monday, Dec. 16 at Shady Point
Cemetery with the Rev. LeRoy Billy officiating, under the direction of
Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Ronnie Dale, Chris, Thomas, Dusty,
Wayne, Jason, Justin, Fred and Matt.
