Billy Wesley Carter, 75, of Talihina, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. He was born Aug. 13, 1927 at Atoka to W. Thomas and Gertrude Clapp-Carter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Talihina. He lived in the Talihina for the past 15 years. He was an active Red Cross volunteer who served at the Pentagon after 9-11 and the Oklahoma City Bombing, as well as serving in Guam, South Dakota, Houston and Galveston. He held the highest position a civilian can obtain with the Red Cross. He was an accountant by trade and worked in Africa for 15 years for Shell Oil Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Carter; and one brother, Jerry Carter.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy D. and Deanna Carter, Randy Carter and Adam Carter; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and James Pelton, all of Houston; one sister and brother-in-law, Nina and Rex Reynolds; one grandson, Josh; two nephews and one niece; and one aunt, Ruth Garrett; as well as a host of friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Talihina Baptist Church with the Revs. Hollis Bond and Mark Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bob King, Mike Vadnais, Jerry Vadnais, Donnie Holland, David Trowbridge, John Wheat, Jim Wheat and Albert Cannady.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cotton Wood, John DuBose and Riley Carter.
