Mildred J. Chrestman, 84, of Quinton, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003, at McAlester. She was born Nov. 16, 1918 at Quinton to Claude E. and Dovie Bland Higgins. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Quinton. She loved to sew, quilt and work in her garden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shuler Chrestman; one sister, Marjorie Gragg; and one brother, Manuel Higgins. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Westbrooks and husband Gary of Broken Arrow; three sons, William Robert Rupe and wife Anna of Poteau; Jon Chrestman and wife Chris of Norman, and Jack Chrestman and wife Gina of Quinton; two brothers, Claude M. Higgins of Quinton and Troy Higgins of Dewar; nine grandchildren, Jeannie, Robert, Jamie, Jason, Julie, Darren, Lori, Jennifer and Jaclyn; four great-grandchildren; her nephew and caregiver, Gene Carnett; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at Quinton Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Chappelle officiating, under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler. Pallbearers will be Chris Heckman, Gary Glynn, Mike Tucker, Jason Rupe, Thomas Bevans and Dale E. Eakle. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Carnett, Gary Westbrook and Gene Garrett.
