W.C. 'Ace' Gould, 91, of Poteau, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2003. He
was born Sept. 6, 1912 at Wister. He was a fleet maintenance manager for
Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land, Texas for 22 years, he worked in
the coal mines of Oklahoma, the orchards of California and also owned
and operated two cafes in Poteau with his wife Vera. He moved back to
Poteau after his retirement and enjoyed his remaining 26 years. He was
married to Vera for 62 years before her death in 2000. He befriended
many people and was known for his charming smile and humble demeanor. He
will be missed and long remembered in the hearts of many.
Survivors include one daughter, Jerry Ann and husband Lonnie Grubb of
The Woodlands, Texas; four grandsons, Steve Corbett of Willis, Texas,
Tim Corbett and Cary Jay Grubb, both of Houston and Kenny Merchant of
Pflugerville, Texas; 12 grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren;
and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Whiteaker of
Fort Smith, Ark., Doris Drake of Ojai, Calif. and Bette Erb of Tacoma,
Wash.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a
host of beloved friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Evans Chapel of
Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Joe Atkinson officiating. Burial will
follow in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller
Funeral Home of Poteau.
