Lucien Carl Hunkapillar, Jr., 86, of Talihina, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003. He was born March 20, 1917 in Alexandria, La. to Lucien Carl and Lucia Bonet-Hunkapillar. He worked for 30 years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs as program officer and also worked as a county agent at several locations in Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force with the 68th Airborn Squadron serving in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University and a star fullback. He married Betty Lucille McClure on Aug. 26, 1978 in Durant. He retired in October 1979. His hobbies were tennis, hunting and fishing. He will be remembered by his infectious laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl and Beverly Hunkapillar of Brookhaven, Miss. and Terry and Nelda Hunkapillar of Broken Bow; one daughter and son-in-law Carlette and Jerry Vadnais of Broken Bow; one stepson and daughter-in-law, H. Michael and Louise Spencer of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at the First Assembly of God with Jerry Grammar officiating. Burial will follow in the New Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mings, Rusty Barron, Nathan Russell, Rodney Wright, Roy James and Gregg Barrs. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Roberts, Mike Cox, Wayne Cox, Jerry Blemmel, Loren Albright, Larry Mings and Pat Turner.
