The Bakersfield Californian Bakersfield, California April 2001 Eva Joye Nelson Services: Tues., April 24, at 11AM Eva Joye Nelson, 70, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2001, surrounded by her family, in her home. Eva was born in Heavener, Okalahoma on April 6, 1931 and resided in Bakersfield for the past 28 years. Evas favorite past-times were traveling, gardening, needlepoint and spending time with her family and friends. Eva volunteered as a librarian and reading coach at Eissler School and served on the PTO board from 1977-1982. In addition, Eva was a member of the watch program at Highland from 1984-1988. During the 17 years Eva was a member of the Kern Winnigades, she volunteered her time to serve in each of their elected offices, and with her husband, Carl, traveled extensively in the U.S., Alaska, and Canada, with other members of the club. Eva always gave her time and love generously and unconditionally, expecting nothing in return. Eva is survived by her loving husband, Carl G. Nelson; her mother, Zona Lively; son David Harris; daughters Fae Riegert and Danette Nelson-Rogers; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; three brothers Harvey, Charles and Dennis Lively; one sister, Minnie Logunov and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Cartmell and the nurses for helping and encouraging Eva, and Dr. Herriott whom mother absolutely trusted and adored. Also, a special thank you to Optimal Hospice for their caring support, in this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Eva Joye Nelson, the family suggests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society. Services will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Chapel. A visitation will be available from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday. Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary
