Dale E. Newburn, 69, of Noel, Mo., passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, at
his home. He was born Nov. 30, 1933 in Wister to Charles E. and Helen
Myers Newburn.
Dale was a devoted family man and church member, being of the Baptist
faith. He was married May of 1953 to his love, Shirley Anne Millspaugh
of Noel and in May celebrated their Golden Anniversary. He was ordained
as a deacon of the Baptist church in 1977 and served in that capacity in
Shreveport, La. and in Noel at the First Baptist Church for the past 20
years. He demonstrated his faith over the years by serving his church
family as Music Director, Sunday School teacher, church officer and
anywhere he saw a need. He retired from the Kansas City Southern
Railroad after 32 years in 1983. He began his career as a telegraph
operator in Spiro, then worked as a dispatcher, Superintendent of Safety
and finally as Assistant Vice President - Personnel and Labor Relation
in Kansas City. After retirement Dale and Shirley moved back to Noel and
for several years operated the Ozark House of Treasures Antique and
Collectible Shop on Main Street. Dale enjoyed traveling, working on
projects in his shop and most of all, spending as much time as possible
fishing and swapping stories with his buddies on the river and at Grand
Lake. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren and was always there to offer advice and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles E.
Newburn Jr.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of the home; three sons, David A.
Newburn and Mark E. Newburn, both of Noel and James D. Newburn of
Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one step granddaughter; nine
great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen
Newburn of Wister; one nephew, "Poncho" Newburn; one niece,
Caroline Davis; several cousins; and countless friends.
The funeral service for Dale E. Newburn will be held on Wednesday, July
23, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Noel, Mo. The Rev.
Jim Wallis and Dr. Thomas Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the
Noel Cemetery in Noel, Mo.
Pallbearers will be Don Howarth, Mike Brown, Jack Allman, Ralph Younker,
Tom Selby and Bob Cartwright.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed McQuillan, Clyde Napier and Bob O'Dell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 from 2 until 7 p.m. at
the Ozark Funeral Home in Noel, Mo.
