D.J. Price, 78, of Howe, passed away
Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Poteau. He was born April 22, 1924 at LeFlore to
Minnie and Deck Price Sr. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the
Chemical Warfare Group in England. He was a lifelong resident of LeFlore
County and was widely known by many customers and friends as the meat market
manager of various grocery and supermarkets in the area. In 1947 he became a
member of the Spiro Masonic Lodge and received his 50 year pin at Heavener
Masonic Lodge No. 154. He was a member of the Eastern Star, a charter member
and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church and was in the Kiamichi Area Brotherhood
Organization. He especially enjoyed working with the youth as a Sunday
School teacher and at church camp. God gave him a love for hunting and
fishing and he never failed to use that opportunity to witness to many men
on the banks of rivers and lakes.
Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Luton Price of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna Louise and Ted Smith of Poteau; four grandchildren, Heather and Chris Butler of Owasso, Allisha and Wade Wiseley of Prattville, Khris and Charlotte Smith of Broken Arrow and Creigh Smith of Poteau; six great-grandchildren, Dalton, Colton and Brendon Wiseley and Joshua, Jacob and Dannielle Butler; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Nona Price of Moore; one niece, Sharon Hancock of Norwalk, Calif.; nephews, Presly Price of Yuma, Ariz., James Wayne McCauley of California, Archie Price of McAlester and Ronnie Price of Moore; one brother, James McCauley of Norwalk, Calif.; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Bethel Baptist Church in Wister with the Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Howe Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. Pallbearers will be Lanny Akers, Anthony Ballew, Simon Billy, Rodney Nobles, Dennis Shoup and Sam Walden. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the...
