Samuel Curtis 'Sparky' Sparks, 75, of Poteau, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003. He was born Nov. 12, 1927 at Hartman, Ark. He was an OSBI agent serving in this area until his retirement, a veteran of World War II, and Korea serving in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, retiring from the Army. During his time in the service, he earned the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Clasp, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharp Shooter Badge (pistol), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal - 2nd Award, and the Army Occupation Award. He married his wife Judy on May 2, 1952 in Pickett, Ark.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one sister, Wanda Dodson of Scottscity, Mo.; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery at Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
