Evelyn Lee Toumbs, 77, of Talihina, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. She was born Oct. 15, 1925 at Talihina to Bethel and Girdie Elliott-Anderson. She attended Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kan. and received her LPN license at the Lawton Indian Hospital. She was a retired nurse of 30 years at the PHS Indian Hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ethel Grace Escue, Delta Lawrence Anderson and Esther Lois Glenn; and three brothers, Tommy, Clifton and Everett Anderson.

Survivors include four children, Delta Elaine of Talihina, Eugenia and husband David Layman of Savoy, Texas, Jack Gilbert of Sandoval, Ill., and James Elliott of Wilburton; four brothers, her twin, Edwin "Buddy" and wife Joy Anderson of Spiro, Kenneth and wife Ruthie Anderson of Daisy, Bill Anderson of Ponca City and Jerry and wife Vernie Anderson of Mansfield, Texas; seven grandchildren, Tia, Tiffany, Jared and Jessie Toumbs, Michael, Shane and Misty Parks; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Samantha, Jordan, Braden and Caitlynn and many others that just loved to call her Granny Toumbs; many loving nieces and nephews; and a host of beloved friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Talihina Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Anderson, Blake Anderson, Donnie Faulkner, John Emmert, David Layman, Phil Winlock, Jared Toumbs, John G. Anderson and Alan Hoover.
