Denver Whitmore, 72, of Wister, passed away Monday, June 2, 2003, at Fort Smith, Ark. He was affiliated with the Apostolics of Poteau (United Pentecostal Church). He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served at the age of 15 with his father in Japan during World War II and also in the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star for carrying a Lieutenant eight miles across enemy lines. He was retired from OG&E. He was preceded in death by his wife Ivory Ellen; daughter, Kelly Inez; sisters, Charlene McLaughlin, Lucille Brown and Bobbie Streetman; brother, Harry "Buck" Whitmore; and his parents, Roy and Violet (Baker) Whitmore. Survivors include his wife Ethelene E. Whitmore of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Lee Whitmore of Okema and John D. and Andrea Whitmore of Wister; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Willie and Nolan Brooks of Antlers, Mary and Vernon Bell of El Reno and Vessie Wilhite of Greenwood, Ark.; one half brother, Jr. Freeman of Antlers; two grandsons, Joseph Whitmore and William Whitmore; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and loved ones; and many, many beloved friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 at Ellis Chapel Church at Wister with the Revs. Jack Covey and Don Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Chapel Cemetery at Wister under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. |
