Mrs. Mary Ethel Doyle-Chastain age 34, wife of Harmon A. Chastain, farmer of
near Hodgens, was killed at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon when a car in which she
was riding overturned on highway 270 about a mile and a half south of
Heavener. She suffered a broken neck and internal injuries.
Sam Doyle, brother of Mrs. Chastain and who was driving the car, said he lost
control of the machine. He and Mrs. Doyle, the only other occupant of the car,
suffered minor injuries. They were brought here by passing motorists. The
Doyle's and Mrs. Chastain were enroute home from Heavener.
Funeral services fro Mrs. Chastain were conducted from the First Baptist
Church of Heavener Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Karl McClendon, Pastor,
officiating. Interment was in the Hodgens
Cemetery.
Besides the husband, Mrs. Chastain is survived by four children; Eugene,
Harmon, Jr., Betty Ruth and Vera Lucile. Also her mother, Mrs. Martha Doyle of
Hodgens, two brothers and three sisters; Sam Doyle,
Hodgens; Bill Doyle, Page; Mrs. Viola Caughern, Hodgens; Mrs. Maude Simmons,
Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Earl Minker, Hodgens.
Mrs. Chastain was born at Blackfork, Ark. January 24, 1905. One daughter,
Beverly, died before she was a year old. Mrs. Chastain was member of the
Baptist Church.

Harmon Chastain, Jr. was born April 2, 1925 in Hodgen, Oklahoma. He was the second child of Harmon and Mary Ethel Doyle-Chastain.
Junior served with the United States Army during WWII. Junior was with Calif. Pvt. 1CL 377 Harbor Craft Company TC. Junior became ill with jungle rot and died of complications on April 26, 1946. He is buried in Hodgen Cemetery, Hodgen, Oklahoma with his mother and sister Beverly.

Bettie Ruth was born on September 25, 1928 to Harmon and Mary Doyle-Chastain. Bettie died on July 23, 1999 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bettie leaves three her four children to mourn her passing; Ruth Ann, Mary Margaret
and Sammy Rush, Jr. Daughter, Darlene was killed when PSA flight 182 crashed in San Diego, killing 144. Darlene was having coffee in her kitchen when the jet crashed into her subdivision.

That ordinary day, a hot Monday morning with nothing to distinguish it except the heat, who on Dwight Street expected to die with breakfast dishes in the sink and coffee in cups untouched? But Fate fell out of the sky -- tons of metal and a cartoon smile. White with bright stripes, already in flames, PSA Flight 182 was death's winged chariot.
On board were 135 doomed souls. On the ground below, in a quiet North Park neighborhood, were seven more. Two others died in a small plane the airliner had sliced through, midair. All told, 144 lives were lost that day, Sept. 25, 1978.
Pacific Southwest Airline's Boeing 727, half a football field long, a smile painted across its nose, slammed to earth at the corner of Nile and Dwight streets.
Houses were crushed like matchsticks, and Dwight ignited. At least 16 houses were destroyed and about six others were damaged. It was the nation's worst aviation disaster to that time.
Forever changed
In the rear house, Darlene Watkins, a 29-year-old hairdresser, also was killed. Monday was her only day off.

Services for Eugene Chastain, 66 of Chula Vista, CA. were April 12, 1990
at the family's residence. California Cremation Services in Tustin was is
charge, with the ashes to go to the family. He died April 5, 1990. Mr.
Chastain was born in Hodgen, Oklahoma to Harmon and Mary Doyle-Chastain.
He lived in the county for 50 years and had been a production manager for
38 years with H.G. Fenton Material Company.
He was preceded in death by brother, Harmon "Junior" Chastain,
his parents, Harmon and Mary Doyle-Chastain; sister Beverly. Survivors
include his wife, Mamie; two sons, Glenn of Chula Vista and Carl of
Escondido; two sisters, Betty Bishop of San Diego and Vera Lou Singleton
of Point Blank, Texas; seven grandchildren.
