Walter Newton Kellogg, 79, of Dallas, Texas and Cameron, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Tulsa. He was born Oct. 23, 1922 at Guthrie. He was a veteran of World War II, served in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained during battles near Liege, Belgium. He graduated University of Oklahoma where he was awarded a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and retired from Sun Oil Company after 30 years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Kellogg Shaw.
Survivors include his wife Marguerite Kellogg of the home; one daughter, Mary Kellogg of Fort Worth, Texas; one son-in-law, Ed Shaw of Dallas; one grandson, David Shaw of Dallas; one brother, Vance Kellogg of Guthrie; two sisters, Ethel Lois Cornforth of Pomona, Calif. and Irma Berg of Guthrie; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Barry
Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery at Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be David Shaw, Ed Shaw, Randy Kellogg, Steve Berg, Bud French and
F.L. Holton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oran Ross and Buddy French.
Memorials may be made to the Karen Kellogg Shaw Memorial Scholarship through the CASC Development Foundation.
Marguerite Smith Kellogg, 80, of Cameron and Dallas, Texas, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Bedford, Texas to Quay and Laura McMurtrey Smith. She was born March 19, 1922 at Cameron. She attended Cameron High School and University of Oklahoma, where she received a BA in social work in 1943 and a MS in psychology in 1946. She served as Assistant Dean of Women at the University prior to her marriage. She married Walter Newton Kellogg in 1949. Her husband's work as a petroleum engineer took the family to Tulsa, San Antonio, Texas, Shreveport, La., Houston and Dallas. In 1964, Marguerite returned to the work force as psychometrist for the Tulsa Public Schools where she administered psychological and aptitude tests. After her husband's career took their family to Houston she became affiliated with the University of St. Thomas and continued working as a psychometrist. Marguerite and her husband established a memorial scholarship at Carl Albert State College in memory of Karen Kellogg Shaw. In 1997, Marguerite was inducted into the Carl Albert State College Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her daughter, Karen Kellogg Shaw.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Catherine Kellogg of Bedford, Texas; one grandson, David Shaw of Dallas, Texas; son-in-law, Ed Shaw of Dallas; other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 in Evans Chapel of Memories at Poteau with the Rev. Barry Hayes officiating. Burial followed in
Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
