Eugene (Gene) Murphy, 95, of Poteau, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003. He was born March 20, 1907 at Checotah. He was a member of Oddfellows No. 344. and was a policeman, coal miner and carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolphus and Mary Ann (Anderson) Murphy; and two daughters, Margie and Janice.
Survivors include his wife Lou Kate Murphy of the home; one daughter, Starla Hoffman and husband Billy Ray of Poteau; two sons, Charles Turner and wife June and Robert Turner and wife Sue, all of Poteau; two sisters, Ruby Newby of Clear Lake Park, Calif. and Faye Franklin of Grants Pass, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Burial will follow in
Oakland Cemetery at Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be Bill J. Barber, David Spiller, Harold Thompson, A.V. Skinner, Bill Seale and Ray Kirkland.
Honorary pallbearer will be Jr. Ollie.
