Ross Earl Stone, 55, of Poteau, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003. He was born Aug. 18, 1947 at Frederick to Ross H. and Elizabeth M. Stone of Wister. He was a graduate of Fanshawe High School and earned a baccalaureate degree from East Central Oklahoma State University at Ada. He retired from the Child Welfare Division of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poteau, a longtime volunteer coach of baseball and softball with the Green Country Summer League program and participated in numerous civic organizations. He was also an organ donor.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Shannon Stubbs; three stepdaughters; two grandchildren, Zachary and Peyton Stubbs of Poteau; nine step grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Les and Misty Stone of Fort Smith; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lee and Steve Foster of Wister and Elizabeth Ann and Jeff Hale of Spiro; four nieces; two nephews; and one aunt, Jimmie Lee Briscoe of Burkburnett, Texas.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the First United Methodist Church of Poteau.
Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery at Wister under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau
