Jack D. Powell, M.D.
Jack D. Powell, M.D., 65, of West Monroe, La. passed away Friday, May 3, 2002. He was born May 8, 1936 in Hominy.
He served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine of Shreveport. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1963 to 1971 and practiced medicine in Poteau from 1963 to 1971. He was also an active member in the United Methodist Church serving as a trustee for the First United Methodist Church of Poteau and St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow. Most recently he was a member of the McGuire United Methodist Church in West Monroe, La. He was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying fishing, hunting and skeet shooting.
He was a loyal alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, a fan of both its academic and athletic programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Ida Ma Powell.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Judy; three daughters, Lorrie Hayes and her husband Jim Hayes of Southlake, Texas, Terri Powell of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mary Susan Powell of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Arrington, Ansley and Madison Hayes; three brothers, Terry Powell and his wife Joan of Claremore, Gale Powell and his wife Kay of Cleveland and John Powell of Tulsa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7. A memorial services will be held at a later date in West Monroe, La. at the McGuire United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the McGuire United Methodist Church Building Fund, The Glenwood Regional Medical Center Hospice of West Monroe, La. or a charity of one's choice.
