Clifford
Smith, 89, of Poteau, passed away Feb. 7, 2009, at Eastern
Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau. He was born Jan. 24, 1920, in
Blue Mountain, Ark. He was a coal miner and a merchant. He
served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was of the Southern
Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; a son, Randy
Smith, three grandsons, Bobby Glen Johnson, Shawn Smith and
Chris Smith; and two brothers, Thurman Lee Smith and Bobby
Smith.
He is survived by a son, Clifford “Arnold” Smith of Sallisaw;
three daughters, Marie McCroskey of Poteau, Nancy Johnson of
Amarillo, Texas, and Cecelia Vermillion of Wister; seven
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Smith
of Albuquerque, N.M., and Dorothy Smith of Newton, Kan.;
numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Oakland
Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, with Rev. Jimmy D. Cook officiating.
Interment will follow in
Oakland Cemetery.
Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau, is in charge of
arrangements.
