Cecil Staton, 87, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Poteau,
passed away Nov. 19, 2009, in Oklahoma City. He was born July
3, 1922, in Bokoshe, to Cecil A. and Rose (Cariker) Staton. He
married Dean Mos on Oct. 18, 1945 in Ft. Smith. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army and was a retired minister. He was pastor of
First Baptist Church in Bokoshe, First Baptist Church in Wister,
First Baptist Church in Charleston, Ark. and the Immanuel
Baptist Church in Henryetta. After leaving the pastorate, he
served as the Director of the Southern Baptist Division of the
World Home Bible League.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dean; and
a sister, Amelia.
He is survived by a son Ron Staton and wife Susan of Oklahoma
City; two grandsons Scott Staton and wife Angela of Oklahoma
City and Michael Staton and wife Marcy of Mustang; four
great-grandchildren, Cole, Cael, Kennedy and Benjamin; a brother
Eugene Staton and wife Vera of Poteau; and numerous other
relatives, friends and loved ones.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at
Old Bokoshe Cemetery in
Bokoshe. Pastor Michael Staton will be officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral
Home, Poteau.
