Claudie Vickers, principal of the Shady Point school
for ten years states; that the present stone school building was
erected by a WPA grant and labor about 1933. One was erected just west
of the present site in 1920. The school offered high school subjects
in 1931-32-33. Mrs. Barbara Vickers was the luch program supervisor.
Teachers of the lower grades are Ms. Reola Foster. The
Board of Education members are Eugene Eidschun, Billie Joe Wilds, and
Allen Kersh. Some of the early statehood teachers were Harvey Powell,
Lul Richards, Celia Oliphant, May Landreth, J. E. Rhone, Monroe
Burton, Alice Phillips Black (now Houston, TX) Charles Mixon and wife,
Billy Ratteree Mixon (now Tuscon schools). Others include Ruth Catton,
Doris Braddy, Inez Banson, Dorothy McClain Campen (now Fort Smith),
Mrs. Frank Young and B. J. Traw now superintendent of Vian
schools.
