LYKINS, Arlene V., 82, of Zephyrhills, passed away on February 5, 2004 at Zephyr Haven Nursing Home in Zephyrhills. Born on May 15, 1921 in Orlando, Oklahoma, she was the youngest of four children of Reuben and Lydia Kissner. She grew up in Oklahoma and attended Wesley School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, graduating in 1944. She later joined the Navy Nursing Corp. and served at US Naval hospitals in San Francisco until 1946. She also served at naval hospitals in San Francisco during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Lieutenant JG. She married Wheeler Lykins, an Air Force Optometrist, on Oct. 19. 1951 and later left the Navy to start a family. They had three sons, Gary, Mark, and Don. Mark died in 1955, shortly after birth. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years in November 1996. She loved the military and especially enjoyed the traveling and living in Germany and Hawaii. She maintained her nursing career and especially enjoyed working OB with new mothers and babies. She moved to T ampa in 1974 when her husband retired from the air force. She retired from nursing and civil service at the Tampa VA Hospital in 1981. Afterward, she assisted with her husband's optometry practice and her son Gary's pharmacy, Lykins Pharmacy, in Zephyrhills for many years. Survivors include two sons, Gary and Don, both of Zephyrhills; one brother, Clifford Kissner of Guthrie, Okla.; one sister, Dorene Kolb, of Blackwell, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Lykins of Ashland, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Tullis of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Whitfield Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery.
