"Gone But Not Forgotten" David Shirley Stoolfire, was the son of David and Angeline Stoolfire, born at Maco, Ill., May 12th 1863, and died at Crescent, Okla. June 9th 1911. D. S. Stoolfire and Mrs. Rettie Richards were married at Burlington, Kan., March 3rd 1898, and to this union were born two children, one daughter, Lillie aged 16 years and one son; Glenn aged 10 years, who with their mother today are mourning the death of a dear husband and father. Shirley had been in poor health for some weeks, but battled Oh! so hard that he might be spared to care for his loved ones. But God knew best, and we must bend to His will and say "Thy will be done." Shirley was a firm believer in Christ, having united with the Presbytrian church at 20 years of age, of which he lived a devoted member, always ready to help a neighbor or friend in time of need. He was a great lover of music and of home, and in his death the community has lost a true friend, the church a beloved brother, and his family a devoted husband, a kind and loving father. Just a month ago on the day he was buried, his gray haired mother passed over the River, and was watching and waiting for her boy, he being too poorly to go to her. Little did he think they would meet so soon. Ten days before he died he was moved to the home of his father-in-law, John Hawley in Crescent where all care and all that loving hands could do, was, done, but he could not stay. He bore his suffering patiently until the end came. The funeral services were conducted at the U. B. church last Saturday by Rev. Odl the pastor who so beautifully portrayed the life of the Christian walk and spoke so comfortably to the mourning ones. The Woodmen also carried out their impressive services showing such divine love as neighbor has for neighbor. Let this good work comtinue. To all who so kindly assisted us in our trouble, we say may God bless you and yours in time of need, and to the breaved ones to mourn not, for he is not lost just gone from us, but his memory cheers us on, to think of him shall ever be a blessing and to meet him will be our cherished hope and earnest effort till the race is over and the goal is won. Beside a host of friends he leaves his wife and children, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Glass, Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Mrs. Isabel Jenning, Loveland, Colo., and three brothers, Charlie Stoolfire of Oregon, and John Stoolfire of Loveland, Colo., and other relatives to mourn his demise to whom an entire community extends the hand of sympathy. |
