DEATH OF ELDER HENRY RICHARDS IS PASSING OF A MIGHTY GOOD MAN
Died Saturday Morning At Home of His Son, Dan Richards, Out West of Crescent - Funeral Services Were Held Sunday Morning. Elder Henry Richards, deceased, was born April 10th, 1829, in Gereney county, Ohio, and passed away on March 19th, 1921, being 91 years, 11 months and 9 days old. At the age of six years his parents moved to Grant county, Indiana. He was married at the age of 20 years to Miss Mary J. Reeder, and to this union was born four children, three of whom died young. The other son, John Franklin Richards, died at the age of 61years, leaving to the deceased, six grandchildren, who still survive him. The first wife of the deceased died April 19th, 1856. He was again married, on March 19th, 1857, to Miss Katherine McCormick, Lafayette county, Indiana, and to this union was born 13 children, of whom five survive; Mrs. Anna Fry, Ottumwa, Kansas; Mrx. Mattie Mayer, Strawn, Kansas; I. I. Richards, Augusta, Kansas; Mrs. May White, Crescent, Okla.; and D. E. Richards, Crescent, Okla. Deceased leaves a loving companion, 80 years of age, four brothers and one sister, five children, 33 grandchildren, and 36 great-grand-children, with a host of friends, to mourn their loss. Elder Richards lived 72 years of married life, and passed away on his 64th wedding anniversary, which makes the occasion of more note. In the year of 1858 he moved to Ottumwa, Kansas, living there 40 years, then moved to Crescent, OK. in 1898, where he lived and made many friends, which was manifested by the throng that followed him to his last resting place, being a pioneer of three states. At the age of 24 he received a sweet hope in Christ, and was united in fellowship with Harmony church of Primitive Baptists, in Grant county, Indiana, and was called to the work of the ministry in 1862 at Neosho church of Primitive Baptists, at Ottumwa, Kansas, serving that church as pastor and moderator the most of the time until his moving to Crescent where he united with Shiloh church, of the same faith and order where he served most of the time until discharged by the Captain of our Salvation, Making a total of 68 years of service in the church he so well loved and gave his life to. He was a kind and loving father and a faithful pastor, always giving good advice to the children and the brethren, looking ever forward to that home beyond the grave. His whole desire was for the future welfare of his children, wife and Shiloh church. The funeral services were conducted by Elders Clark and Chambers, at the Primitive Baptist church in Crescent, on Sunday morning, the 20th day of March, 1921, interment being in Crescent cemetery. Six of his grandchildren acted as the pall-bearers.
