| Opal Faye Chambers, 87, went to be with her Lord and loved ones on Monday, May 30, 2011. She was born November 6, 1923 in Mulhall, OK to Charles Elmer and Anna Louise Bocox. She was married to James E. Chambers (Edgar) on February 19, 1941; and to this union was born one son, Gerald Edward Chambers of Guthrie, OK. Opal worked in the dry cleaning business for 35 years as a presser, silk finisher, and did alterations. She worked at Calvin's Dry Cleaning and Crescent Cleaners in Crescent, OK. She worked for City Master Cleaners and Keep U Neat Cleaners in Guthrie. After retiring from the dry cleaning business, she continued to do alterations in her home. Prior to working in the dry cleaning business, she worked as a waitress at the City Café in Crescent. She and her husband operated a creamery earlier in Guthrie. After retiring, she and he husband enjoyed traveling with friends to various states throughout the United States. They enjoyed traveling to Jefferson City, MO several times during the year to visit their son, Gerald. Opal enjoyed going fishing, dancing, and playing cards with friends and family members. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and making craft items for her church bazaar. She did volunteer work with the Logan County Medical Center Auxiliary in Guthrie. She enjoyed playing canasta with the Priscilla Canasta Club here in Guthrie and the Mulhall Canasta Club. Opal was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, #12 in Oklahoma for over 50 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women, and served on other committees in her church. Opal was a member of the Good Cheer Club. The Good Cheer club was organized during World War I by ladies in the Mulhall community. The club made bandages for the soldiers in World War I and II and dedicated to helping needy families. They made lap blankets for the ill, quilts, and other items for hardship families. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters – Dorothy Lewis, Ruby Walton, Lucille Terrel, and a nephew Glen Terrel. She is survived by her son, Gerald Chambers of Guthrie and a foster daughter Elizabeth Davis of Houston, TX. She leaves behind two nephews, Harold Lewis and wife Carla of Yukon, OK and Bobby Jones of Guthrie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special "Thank You" goes to Logan Medical Center doctors and staff, Companion Home Health Care staff, and Companion Hospice for their professional help in making Mom’s last days comfortable. Family requests that donations be made to medical research or a charity of their choice. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 224 East Noble Avenue, Guthrie. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Mulhall under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie. Visitation will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. |
