Henry William Hartmann, was born in Langendorf Germany June 7th 1856 had [sic] was called to his Eternal Home June 26th 1931 from his home West of Orlando, Oklahoma, aged 75 years, and 19 days. He came to America and located at Walnut, Ill. He was converted Jan. 9th 1877 and united wth the Evangelical Church. The following year he felt the call to the ministry.
He entered North-Western College at Naperville Illinois in 1878.
He was appointed assistant at Polk Mission Iowa Conference through the influence of Presiding Elder E. J. Schultz. On Januray 19th 1880 he preached for the first time at polk Mission.
In April 1880 he received his first appointment at Maquoketa Iowa, under the supervision of Presiding Elder John Henn.
He was licensed to preach by Bishop J. J. Esher in 1881 during the conference session at Fort Dodge Iowa and was stationed at Humboldt Mission. He was ordained as Deacon in 1883 by Biship Dubs. During the conference session at Dysart Iowa, he was ordained as Elder by Bishop Thomas Bowman and stationed at Belle Plaine Iowa. In 1886 he transferred the Kansas conference and was stationed at Alida, Kan.
He served the following fields in the Kansas conference; Alida, Leonardville, Bern, Washington, and Emporia, Kan. Holden Mo Waukomis and Weatherford Okla.
He served in the ministry for 29 years.
He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Manz, March 20th 1880. To this union was [sic] born 8 sons and 3 daughters, ten of whom survive.
