Formed November 16, 1907, Pittsburg County is located in the
rolling hills of Southeastern Oklahoma. McAlester is the county
seat and economic hub of the area, located at the crossings of
State Highways 69 and 270.
Prior to statehood, roughly the same geographical area was known
as Tobucksy County, Moshulatubbee District, Choctaw Nation, Indian
Territory. Perryville was the county seat (until 1873 when it
moved to South McAlester) for Tobucksy County, and Included an
intersection of the Texas Road and The California Trail.
