Looking for members and descendants of the ROFF family, of Roff,
Springer, Ada, Ardmore and other locations in and about the
Pontotoc County vicinity. Joe T. ROFF founded the town of ROFF.
His brothers were involved in ranching throughout the Nations
during the 1860-1907 period, being members by marriage. Joe and
many of his kin are buried in East Hill Cemetery, outside of ROFF.
One of those there is my g-g-ggrandfather, Joseph T. Roff, who was
the uncle of Joe T. ROFF. I have a certain number of them on my
web site at http://www.cyberramp.net/~srb/gen/reevbakr.htm . I
would love to get any additions or corrections to the research I have
there. The above web site includes my IT lines (ROFF, HARRIS, COOK)
in addition to one or two others that may have moved from Arkansas in the
Mass Move around the turn of the century. My Grays, from Stone Co.
Arkansas, appear to have had poor luck in Pontotoc, one being
shot by a doctor in Ada, and another hijacked and murdered near
Roff in the early part of this century.

That is all the death record tells us. If you have any information on

died when my father and uncle were only two and they never saw or heard

Lolly Jane
loaded up the wagon and moved from Missouri to Waxahatchie, Tx. where
thier
first two children were born. Amsdon in 1900 and Liah in
1901. Later in

They got as far a Roth, Pontotoc Co., Ok when they had to stop.
The Washita
River was to high to cross so they waited for the river to go down to cross.
Well that river never seemed to drop, so they lived in Roth two years before
moving on to a small town called Lightening Ridge ( one mile from the town
Vanoss, Ok). Here their son John Bradley was born in
1903. They later
moved to a little log cabin they leased from a Indian woman.
In this home in

was just

a rattler
had slipped into the crib with the baby to keep warm. They had

TAYLOR, DAY, TIGNOR among other pioneers:
In 1890, my ancestors lived in Chickashaw Nation and some were on the census
there. Elizabeth UNKNOWN TAYLOR, my gr-gr-grandmother (b. 1819, d. 1907),
and her children and grandchildren left Missouri between 1874-1878 after
her
husband and son-in-law ANGLIN were killed by bushwackers during the Civil
War
a decade prior. Unfortunately I know nothing yet of my gr-gr-grandfather,
Unknown TAYLOR. Her oldest daughter, Sarah, married first Unknown ANGLIN
and
then married Samuel DAY. She was 20 in 1862 and had no children by her first
husband so I suspect they weren't married very long before this incident
happened. Samuel died 1896 and is buried in Old Moss Cemetery in Pontotoc
County. Other children of Unknown and Elizabeth TAYLOR were: Eliza, b. ?,
d. ? who married Unknown WILKINSON (I did not find them in the 1890 Census
and I don't know if they married in MO or IT); Jane, b. ? , d.? who married
Unknown COUCH (same as Eliza--did not find them); Annie, b. 1861?, d. 1914,
who first married a TIGNOR (TIGNER) and I was able to find her on the 1890
Chickasaw Nation Census along with her son, George, and no husband; she
married second to Bill MULLANAX and had another son, Elgie. William Henry
TAYLOR, my gr-grandfather, may have been on the Chickasaw Nation census in
1890 with his first wife, but the record simply said, "William TAYLOR and
wife." There were more people in his home than just the children I am aware
of, however. He married first, Unknown UNKNOWN, and second Mary Etta
BROWDER. Then there was Jack but we are unsure if Jack ever married because
he died in the 1920's at Ft. Supply, Oklahoma of a brain tumor.
Elizabeth had one grandson born in Texas in 1878 so either some or all of
them must have first gone somewhere in Texas. One descendant thinks it may
have been to Dennison, TX, but I can't find any record of them there. In
1899, one grandson was born in Chickasaw Nation but when he was 6 months
old,
they moved to Greer Co., Oklahoma Territory, where several of them received
land. Two separate descendants insist that Elizabeth was 3/4 Cherokee and
made the Trail of Tears but the 1900 Census indicates her father was born
in
England and her mother was born in Germany. I have a photo of her but she
was sold old that it is difficult to tell; however, two of her daughters
are
in the photo and they did not look Indian to me.
I know so very little about my TAYLOR line but they must have been true
survivors to make the trek from Missouri to Texas to Chickasaw Nation to
Greer County.

1902:
William H. JACKSON, father, born in 1856 (intermarried white)
Annie D., mother, born in 1866, 1/2 Chickasaw
Children:
Viola, 1881 (married Hindman H, Burris, Dec. 21, 1900)

Othelo, 1899
Jerold W. (grandson, son of Crudiss), 1902
William David PITTS and Lizzie Jackson Pitts later lived in May,
Brown County, Texas where my father, Bernie Byron Pitts, was born
in December 1903, and where William David's parents were living
at the time.
Sometime between 1904 and 1920 William David and Lizzie split up,
because he is listed in the Greenville, Hunt County, TX Census in
1920 as living with a wife named Gemma with son, Byron. I am
very interested in knowing what happened to Lizzie. I barely
remember the one time I saw her when I was a young boy - in
Ardmore - in about 1946. Perhaps she returned to be with
relatives in the Franks area. Presumably she remarried and had
another family, but I have no idea about that.
Is there a listing of people buried in the Franks Cemetery? If
so, where can I access it to search for the Jacksons? Perhaps
my grandmother is buried there. I hope to be able to locate some
of her brothers and sisters and their descendants as well. Any
Suggestions?
