BURNETT FAMILY

WILLIAM "Will"  H. BURNETT, b. Feb. 5, 1843 in KY, married May 1, 1873 to Lucinda Ann WRIGHT in Carroll Co.AR.
Lucinda, born 1857 AR. to Bennett and Lucinda (MCELYEA) WRIGHT. 
William moved his family into Indian Territory between 1893 - 1899 and settled in Hart, Pontotoc County.

In later years, Lucinda moved to AR and then to MO. with all her children except for two sons. William moved to Clayton, Pushmataha Co. where his brother Cornelius T. BURNETT lived. He died there November 16, 1917 and is buried at the Old Clayton Cemetery along with one son, Fred BURNETT.
Lucinda died July 25, 1926 and is buried in Joplin, Missouri at the Fairview Cemetery.

Will and Lucinda had eight children, one of which was my grandfather, Lon Franklin BURNETT. He was born 1883 AR and married Joey "Jo" Ann UNDERWOOD May 19, 1909 in Hart, Pontotoc Co.
Jo was born 1888 Navarro Co, TX to George Wesley (1839 Monroe Co. OH to Mordecai and Deborah (BLAZER) UNDERWOOD) and Martha J. (JOHNSON) UNDERWOOD (1857 Warren Co. TN)
Joey's siblings included: Charlie E., Johnny B., Sarah J. (AYERS), Henry E., Amy B. (BROWN), Lee O., Robert A., and Martha E. (UPTON)
Lon's siblings included: John D., Mary G., Alice "Allie"(1st BURNS - 2nd FREDRICK), Monroe, Fred, Herbert, and Clarence.
Both Lon and Joey are buried in Comanche County. Lon, 1883-1963 and Joey, 1888-1959.
George died in1918, Martha in 1941. Both are buried at Lightning Ridge cemetery outside of Roff.
Members of this UNDERWOOD family still reside in Roff.

Rufus M. BURNETT,  (brother of W.H.) born January 1846 in Trigg Co. Kentucky to Cornelius and Nancy  (WALLIS/WALLACE) BURNETT.
In 1883, Rufus moved to Indian Territory and in 1886 he married Harriett Isabelle (FULSOM) DAVIS near Stonewall, in the Chickasaw Nation.

Harriett FULSOM, 1/2 Chickasaw was born May 1850 in the Chickasaw Nation to Sampson (full Chickasaw) and Kitta (COLBERT) FULSOM . Harriett was the widow of Cap DAVIS...  Cap. DAVIS and Harriett had four children, Samuel Colbert, who married Linnie K MANTON, Catherine "Kitty"  married Joe PIRTLE, Sallie, married James N. JONES, and John Lowery DAVIS, who married Annie Laura WHITE.  Harriett's 2nd marriage was to James FILMORE, to this union was born Henry FILMORE. Harriett's 3rd marriage was to Rufus M. BURNETT. Harriett divorced Rufus in 1914.
Children by Rufus's 2nd wife, Harriett  FULSOM;  
Charles Marvin BURNETT, 1887  - 1930,  m. 1st, Maggie BUNCH-  2nd, Jennie Frances DAVIS
Benjamin Franklin BURNETT, b. 1891, m. Alice Gertude BROWN

Rufus's first wife was Mary J. WALKINS, they were married in 1873 in Berryville, Carroll Co. AR. From this union he had one daughter, Rosa Bell BURNETT, born January 1874  in Carroll Co. Arkansas. Rosa died 1930 in Childress Co. Texas.
Rosa married in 1891 to Columbus Napoleon UPTON in Oklahoma County and to this union nine children were born: Erwen, Benjamin, Edward, Marshall, Park, Annie, Lloyd, Marvin, and Everett.

Rufus and Harriett lived their lives in Hart, Pontotoc Co. until their death. Rufus died November 1, 1925, Harriett died December 18, 1923. Both are buried in the Hart Cemetery just outside Roff.
